Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for hospitals and healthcare?

Yes. Epoxy polymer flooring is chosen by many hospitals, laboratories, cold rooms and restroom facilities for its hygiene properties. It is seamless, non-porous and does not support bacterial or fungal growth.

Can it be made antimicrobial?

Yes. Our Biocide-Film systems incorporate antimicrobial protection through the depth of the floor, with slow release of biocide over the coated area for ongoing microbial protection.

Can it be made non-slip?

Yes. Where the surface requires slip resistance a non-slip additive is added to the top coats. We can offer R10, R11 and R12 slip ratings for commercial applications and wet areas. Please contact our technical team for further assistance.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Seamless floors are the lowest-maintenance floors available. A mop with a mild detergent is usually all it takes. There are no grout lines for spills to stain and the non-porous surface will not harbour bacteria.

Epoxy flooring for hospitals and healthcare

In healthcare, the floor is a frontline part of infection control. It has to be seamless and non-porous so there is nowhere for microorganisms to collect, resist constant cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants, stay safe underfoot, and keep performing under 24/7 traffic from beds, trolleys and people. Shimicoat resin floors are engineered for exactly these demands.

Coving the floor up the walls removes the hard-to-clean corner and supports strict cleaning regimes, while Biocide-Film systems build antimicrobial protection through the depth of the floor for wards, theatres and laboratories. Shimicoat supplies and supports healthcare flooring systems Australia-wide.
