Frequently asked questions

Can it be made non-slip?

Yes. Where the surface requires slip resistance a non-slip additive is added to the top coats. We can offer R10, R11 and R12 slip ratings for commercial applications and wet areas. Please contact our technical team for further assistance.

Is this suitable for commercial use?

Absolutely. Our systems are used across hospitals, hotels, schools, butcher shops, food preparation areas, aged care, clubs, shopping centres and government facilities.

Can you cove the floor up the walls?

Yes. Coving suits a contemporary epoxy coating and is essential in food and beverage areas, removing the hard-to-clean wall-to-floor join.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the system and the size of the area. A traditional epoxy build needs several coats with curing time between each. Our polyaspartic systems dry much faster and can allow a floor to be applied in a single day.

Epoxy flooring for commercial kitchens

A commercial kitchen floor works harder than almost any surface in your business. It faces boiling water, hot oil, grease, dropped pans, abrasive cleaning chemicals and constant foot traffic, all while it has to stay safe underfoot and pass health inspections. A Shimicoat seamless epoxy or polyaspartic floor is purpose-built for exactly that.

Because the finish is seamless and non-porous, there are no grout lines for grease and bacteria to collect in, so the floor washes down clean after every service. A slip-resistant grip aggregate meets R10 to R12 ratings for wet areas, and coving the floor up the walls removes the hard-to-clean corner where the wall meets the floor.

Shimicoat supplies commercial kitchen flooring systems and DIY kits Australia-wide, backed by expert phone support.
