Frequently asked questions

Is it food-safe and hygienic?

Yes. Our seamless resin coatings do not support bacterial or fungal growth and are used in hospitals, commercial kitchens, laboratories, cold rooms and food processing facilities for their hygiene properties.

Can it be made non-slip?

Yes. Where the surface requires slip resistance a non-slip additive is added to the top coats. We can offer R10, R11 and R12 slip ratings for commercial applications and wet areas. Please contact our technical team for further assistance.

Can it handle chemical wash-downs?

Yes. Our chemical-resistant systems withstand a broad spectrum of acids, alkalis and cleaning chemicals used in food and beverage production.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Seamless floors are the lowest-maintenance floors available. A mop with a mild detergent is usually all it takes. There are no grout lines for spills to stain and the non-porous surface will not harbour bacteria.

Epoxy flooring for food processing

In food and beverage production, the floor is part of your hygiene system. It has to be seamless and non-porous so bacteria has nowhere to hide, resist the acids, fats and cleaning chemicals used every day, and survive the thermal shock of hot wash-downs and cold rooms. Shimicoat resin floors are engineered to do all three, and to pass the audit.

Coving the floor up the walls and forming falls to drains means spills are contained and the whole area can be washed down in minutes. For the highest-risk zones, our Biocide-Film systems build antimicrobial protection through the depth of the floor. Shimicoat supplies and supports food-grade flooring systems Australia-wide.
