While all of them can be considered cousins, each has an individual makeup and its own characteristics.
Epoxy resin flooring is:
• A resin that’s low in VOCs.
• A self-levelling floor surface (it’s poured into place).
• Bonds extremely well to concrete and other hard surfaces and can be used to resurface worn concrete surfaces.
Polyurethane is:
• Solvent-based and thus high in VOCs.
• Doesn’t bond well to concrete and other surfaces.
• Often used as a topcoat over epoxy resin, thanks to its high resistance to UV rays (doesn’t yellow over time).
Polyaspartic is:
• A coating and sealing material that has low to no VOCs.
• Highly resistant to UV rays.
• Cures much faster than both epoxy resin and polyurethane.
Each type has distinctive uses depending on what you require from your flooring choice. If you need any advice on the type or combination of surfaces, please get in contact with our friendly Shimicoat team.
